An opinion like no other…

Much better than a Google review...

This is not a google review, a booking review or even a tripadvisor review.

It’s a handwritten review written and drawn by Emilia and Benjii with a lot of love, and it touches us to the core.

What a joy to have such charming children and caring parents at home. Thank you so much.

Repair of a leak near the moat valve and overflow at Manoir du Guern

ouverture de la vanne pour vider les douves du manoir du guern

Repair of a leak near the moat valve and overflow at Manoir du Guern

We discovered a leak near the moat valve and overflow, as the water level had dropped abnormally, albeit slightly. The first step was to pinpoint the exact location of the leak, which meant completely emptying the moat to gain access to the suspect area. We carefully inspected the area around the valve and overflow to locate the leak.

Once the leak was located, we carefully cleaned the area around the leak, removing all dirt and other debris that might interfere with the adhesion of the clay, the only material that could be used for this problem. Once the area had been cleaned, we needed to find some good, oily clay. We found some some twenty meters away, at a depth of six meters.

We then sealed the leak with this clay, pressing it down carefully, and closed the valve to start gradually filling the moat. While the moat was being filled, we carefully monitored the repaired area for any persistent leaks.

What a job!

Renaissance of the Manoir du Guern or how to transform the ruins of a former presbytery into a charming bed and breakfast

Manoir du Guern, an architectural jewel steeped in history, located a few kilometres from Auray in Morbihan, has been restored to its former splendour thanks to some exceptional restoration work. Let’s delve into the heart of this adventure, where the past meets the present in a harmonious renovation.

The restoration began with an exploration of the Manor’s roots, dating back several centuries. Built in the 16th century, the building has stood the test of time, but time has left its mark. The captivating historical details, inscribed in every stone, have been preserved throughout the restoration process.

Before embarking on this adventure, a team of experts carried out a meticulous diagnosis to assess the condition of each architectural element. This crucial preliminary work laid the foundations for a carefully devised restoration plan, guaranteeing the preservation of the authenticity of the Manoir du Guern, now a guest house and gîtes.

The first phase of the work saw the team focus on structural restoration. Specialist local craftsmen worked with passion to bring the foundations, old beams and structural elements back to life, while complying with heritage preservation standards.

The restoration of the Manoir du Guern was not simply a matter of building, but a tribute to traditional craftsmanship. Local craftsmen were hired to reproduce with precision the sculptural details and decorative elements, thus preserving the soul of the Manoir du Guern.

While the emphasis has been on preserving the original character, discreet modern touches have been incorporated to make Manoir du Guern functional and comfortable by contemporary standards and to enable our guests to enjoy a truly relaxing stay. This includes efficient heating systems and discreet fixtures and fittings to meet modern needs without compromising the historic aesthetic.

Below are a few before and after images to give you a more concrete idea of the restoration work we have undertaken to enable you to stay in this wonderful place that is the Manoir du Guern.

Bees at Manoir du Guern: a step towards an environmentally-friendly lifestyle

In a resolutely ecological approach, the Manoir du Guern, a few kilometres from Auray in Morbihan, is embarking on an exciting adventure by welcoming beehives to its grounds. This initiative reflects the manor’s commitment to finding a balance between its history and practices that respect nature.

The installation of beehives at Manoir du Guern is in line with our desire to encourage biodiversity and care for the environment. The beehives, carefully positioned in an ideal setting for their well-being, symbolise the manor’s desire to manage its land responsibly.

To turn this idea into a reality, Manoir du Guern is working with a local beekeeper, Claire, who is passionate about her job and the preservation of bees, and who looks after the bee colonies at Kerplouz, the agricultural college in Auray.

The hives have been installed in specially designated areas of the Manoir du Guern estate, helping to pollinate the surrounding gardens and crops.

There are many benefits to this approach. As well as supporting bees, which are essential for pollination, the Manoir du Guern hopes to harvest quality honey. As a result, our guests will be able to enjoy a local, authentic product at breakfast, straight from the estate’s beehives.

*We believe in a holistic approach to the management of our estate, integrating nature into our daily lives. We believe in a holistic approach to managing our estate, integrating nature into our daily lives. Hosting these beehives is a practical way of doing our bit for the environment, while at the same time promoting agriculture that respects biodiversity.

Soon the opening of the manor of Guern

Despite our wish to welcome you in our guest rooms and cottages in Brittany from the April holidays, we preferred to postpone our opening date after the new sanitary restrictions announced on March 31st.

So this is just a postponement! Everything is ready: we hope to welcome you on Friday 7 May.

Planting at the manor of Guern

We had the great pleasure of doing various plantings in March.

We planted :

  • About fifty hydrangeas in the ground around the bridge along the moat
  • About 40 white hydrangeas in the courtyard of the manor
  • A jasmine hedge
  • Five fruit trees in the orchard: a pear tree, an apple tree and three plum trees, including a mirabelle tree and two quetsch trees.
  • Nine trees at the entrance to the property

We hope to plant many more trees in the future.
